Pioneeer Day 2009

Each year the Fourth Grade at Lauren's school puts on "Pioneer Day," part of which involves the students donning garb consistent with the nineteenth century American west. Lauren has been reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder books (e.g., Little House on the Prairie) and is currently reading a biography of this author.

Lauren was quite excited about this. She worked with her mother to create a costume that Laura Ingalls would envy. The original date for the event was obliterated by foul weather that closed the schools. Needless to say, there was much disappointment until it was determined that there would indeed by a rescheduling of the big day.

As the young scholars gathered for their traditional picture, they were coached to emulate the stoic visages typical of pictures taken in the early days of photography.

Here you can see our little pioneer in living color. Makes you think Michael Landon will come around the corner at any moment...
